Bruce Arians, who coached a 6-6 tie in 2016, loves the NFL’s new OT rule

The Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks played 15 minutes of overtime in October, but couldn’t break their 6-6 tie. Cardinals coach Bruce Arians would’ve preferred if it took 10 minutes to reach that conclusion.

Arians told reporters Wednesday that he’s happy with a new rule change that seeks to cut down on wear and tear by trimming five minutes from overtime periods.

The concern for the New England Patriots will be if the famous Madden curse claims another victim. Tight end Rob Gronkowski graced the cover a season ago, but he played in just eight games and watched Super Bowl 51 from the sideline after back surgery landed him on injured reserve.

Tom Brady’s so convinced he’s not going to be cursed by the Madden cover that he’s smashing mirrors and walking under ladders.

Elite Dan McCullers Jersey Brady isn’t concerned about the curse and even threw in a few exclamation points to make sure he got the point across.

The Madden NFL 18 cover is a great honor for me, said Brady. Especially since I have been playing the game since growing up next to EA headquarters in the Bay Area. I’m not one to believe in curses, so I’m ready to take the challenge head on like always! It doesn’t stand a chance!!!

Elite Womens Da’Norris Searcy Jersey Brady has a strong argument as the greatest of all time (G.O.A.T.) at the quarterback position after earning an NFL-record fifth Super Bowl ring in 2016. He’s a two-time NFL MVP and fourth all-time in both passing yards (61,582) and touchdowns (456).

Fred Lynn might’ve been a Hall of Famer if he’d stayed healthy — or in Boston

In January 1981, the Boston Red Sox traded Fred Lynn to the California Angels.

Lynn, who went to high school near Los Angeles and played college baseball for the University of Southern California, should seemingly have had cause to celebrate coming home. He did not.

I was really not happy about it, to be honest with you, Lynn told Sporting News this week.
Limited Kids Anthony Sherman Jersey
And for good reason. In the friendly confines of Fenway Park, long known to favor hitters, Lynn had a slash of .308/.383/.520, averaging 24 home runs and 102 RBIs per 162 games. His 141 OPS+ means he likely would have thrived anywhere in those years, though his raw stats would probably have been lower in another ballpark.

He could have found few worse new homes than Anaheim Stadium, though. In fact, along with injury problems in the second half of his career, it might have helped kill his Hall of Fame chances.

Limited Kids Joe Haden Jersey Let’s be open-minded. Let’s have a conversation about it.

As baseball fans, we should want to meet up with our co-workers at the water cooler on Monday morning to talk about the Sunday night game. We should want to discuss games with new fans. We should want to take our kids and friends to the game and be entertained by the whole shebang, not just two squads of Blade Runner replicants on the field. But most of all, as baseball fans, we should want the continued growth, expansion and engagement of the game.

The quarterbacks who did go ahead of him ended up being no surprise

The chances of Kelly being drafted were extremely slim by the time the big moment arrived if you consider the bar incident, two torn ACLs, his nomadic college career and a pro day that had to be cut short because of a wrist injury that required surgery

The quarterbacks who did go ahead of him ended up being no surprise, with the mild exception of Iowa’s C.J. Beathard. Kelly being snapped up when he was, then, and by whom, was the biggest surprise.

If he makes the roster, Kelly will likely get a year to redshirt, heal everything and absorbing some wisdom from the Broncos’ legend and team president. Eventually, though, the best-case scenario is that he’ll be on deck if either Trevor Siemien or Paxton Lynch, or both, stall in their own progress next season.

But there are a lot of high-profile situations Kelly will have to navigate before that. And, again, that hasn’t been what he does best.

Three home games is the good news, but late-season trips to Minnesota and Baltimore aren’t exactly easy. The second prime-time game against the Steelers will be heated as usual, but this AFC North and NFC North tour is something Cincinnati could negotiate if they are still in the hunt. Keep in mind Lewis is 10-2 against the NFC North. That’s a good sign with the late-season games against the Bears, Vikings and Lions.

Limited Mens Avery Williamson Jersey That’s a conservative approach, because we think with this schedule the Bengals can put up a winning record if they can take care of business against the Ravens. If Cincinnati can emerge from the first two months with an above .500 record, then a return to the playoffs is a possibility. Of course, the Bengals must address the free agency losses on the offensive line and show that last year’s record was the exception to what has been a steady run of success.

Jay Cutler explains why he left NFL to join Fox Sports as announcer

On Thursday there were reports Jay Cutler was interested in a broadcasting career, and less than 24 hours later he was hired by Fox Sports.

Cutler confirmed the news with a statement released to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington.

“I don’t know if retirement is the right word; I don’t feel that anyone ever really retires from the NFL. You are either forced to leave, or you lose the desire to do what’s required to keep going. I’m in between those situations at this point in my life,” Cutler said, in part.

J.J. Watt, the NFL’s two-time Defensive Player of the Year, has praised his younger brother, saying he can be a better NFL player than he has been. He tweeted shortly after the pick was made circling this season’s scheduled Christmas Day clash between the Texans and Steelers on the Watt family calendar.

T.J. Watt is a 6-4, 252-pound outside linebacker who was a second-team Associated Press All-American and first-team All-Big Ten selection last season with 63 tackles, 15 1/2 for loss, and 11 1/2 sacks while helping Wisconsin win the Cotton Bowl.

Though just one season of high productivity at Wisconsin after he fought through injuries early in his career, the Steelers hope Watt can fulfill his tremendous potential. He was a combine all-star, ranking near the top among outside linebackers in nearly every category.

“He shows twitch, toughness, and quickness. He’s got some length,” NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock said of Watt. “He’s obviously got some bloodlines which are legit. He plays really hard… T.J. Watt can play.”nike_steelers_2261

Offensive woes have Mets already five games behind Nationals in NL East

Game Womens Peyton Manning Jersey Nineteen games into their 2017 season, the Mets are five games out of first place in the NL East.

That’s … not optimal. Especially when you consider 12 of those 19 games have been at home, and that they’ve yet to play any teams out of their division. In a schedule oddity, they actually won’t play their first non-NL East squad until May 8, when they host the Giants at Citi Field in their 33rd game of the year. Strange.

Speaking of sac flies, don’t let this affect on-base percentage. My SN colleague Ryan Spaeder has written extensively on why this rule needs to change. But if you don’t feel like clicking and reading, here’s his basic argument: Unlike sac bunts, which don’t affect a player’s batting average or on-base percentage, sac flies hurt on-base percentage while leaving average unaffected. This is silly and should change. Current and former players, including Hall of Famer Wade Boggs, agree.

None of these changes is needed, of course, but I’d argue that each one would be good for the game. If they all happened, great. If not, that’s fine, too. The point is that MLB, and all sports, should always be in a state of review to make sure the game is in its optimal state. There’s always room for improvement, whether through a tweak or a more drastic approach.

There’s a lot of young depth behind first baseman Mike Napoli and third baseman Adrian Beltre. Joey Gallo and Jurickson Profar have the most promise. Gallo, 23, has shown monster power and miniscule contact, which is why he’s struggling to make the roster. Profar, 24, might move to a different corner — left field — to get regular at-bats. Regardless, both are ready in case Beltre (calf) misses time or Napoli shifts to DH. Texas also counts Ryan Rua (27 on March 11) and Hanser Alberto, 24, among its corner contingent. Rua has been the more successful of the two.

Orioles’ Kevin Gausman rips ump for ‘bush-league’ ejection, double standard

The controversial series between the Orioles and Red Sox took another turn Wednesday when Baltimore starting pitcher Kevin Gausman was ejected for hitting Xander Bogaerts in the second inning.

At face value, the ejection would make sense. But Gausman’s pitch was a 76 mph curveball and he was none too pleased with home plate umpire Sam Holbrook.

Gausman left the field screaming curveball! at Holbrook after getting tossed, clearly in shock he could be ejected for the infraction.

Chris Sale threw a 98 mph fastball behind Manny Machado on Tuesday and was only issued a warning. Gausman was subsequently ejected for a curveball.

The hard-hitting third baseman signed a five-year, $95 million contract with Boston two offseasons ago. Since that time, he has played in just 129 games while only hitting 10 home runs with 47 RBIs.

Sandoval, a career .280 hitter, carried a woeful .245/.292/.366 slash line for the Red Sox two seasons ago. Panda took up boxing this offseason so he could salvage his reputation in Boston by getting back into shape.

I’ve heard that it’s going to help me for your shoulders — getting your shoulders strong, so I decided to do it, Sandoval said. (Tigers first baseman Miguel) Cabrera told me that it helps him to keep his shoulders strong.

During the season especially, we take a lot of swings, we play a lot of games, we swing a lot in games, batting practice, all that, so to maintain your shoulder the strongest is one of the key points that we focused on in the offseason.

Yankees rookie Aaron Judge’s hot start leads to spike in jersey sales

Mens Jacques Plante Jersey
In his third and fourth starts, he turned in back-to-back seven-inning, one-run efforts, but then failed to make it more than four innings in his next two starts and was sent to the bullpen. The consistency is a working point in Charlotte. He’s made four starts this year, with 22 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings, with five homers allowed and a 4.87 ERA.

Unbelievable stuff, McCatty said. The thing that I’ve learned more in the few weeks that he’s down is that he’s really an intense competitor. Even giving up hits and coming in, just the way he shows me how he’s feels about it, that he’s a competitor and he knows what he expects of himself. I’m not saying he knows everything he can do yet, but I think he has a better understanding of himself. And when he doesn’t do it, he gets mad.

There’s a new king of New York baseball.

Yankees rookie right fielder Aaron Judge has taken the Bronx by storm with his MLB-leading 13 home runs in his first full season of action.

The towering slugger’s success is already translating to jersey sales.

Olney’s report includes jersey sales for all of baseball, of course, and not just the Yankees. Such popularity tends to be the result when a player in pinstripes hits so many dingers.
Lamarcus Joyner Jersey
The sales come from a small a sample size, but if Judge is truly just like Derek Jeter, he’ll have no problem maintaining his prominence.

At the very least, Judge is the most popular No. 99 since Manny Ramirez.

Saints C Max Unger out 5 months after foot surgery, report says

The Saints could have a big issue on their hands because of center Max Unger’s foot.

Unger recently underwent surgery to repair an injured foot, NFL Network reported, and will miss roughly five months, likely beginning the 2017 season on the physically unable to perform list.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to lead the Colorado Crush as we make a push for a playoff spot the second half of the season,” Jones said in a statement. “I plan to give it my all and I’m dedicated to the challenges ahead. My goals are to raise the quality of play and make the remainder of the season a success for our fans and front office.”

Jones had previously served as the Crush’s defensive coordinator before taking over the 2-6 team following the departure of head coach Jose Jefferson.

Jones, 44, a two-time All-American at Florida State, was selected fourth overall by the Jets in the 1993 NFL Draft. He spent his entire 11-year career in New York. He started 129 of 142 regular season games, recording 1,021 tackles, nine sacks and five interceptions during his career.

The Colts once saw Allen as a top blocker and receiver to mesh with pure pass-catching tight end Coby Fleener in their double tight sets, but injuries contributed to Allen’s fade when Fleener moved on to the Saints in 2016. The Patriots noticed Allen suddenly was expendable for Indianapolis because of Jack Doyle, and New England pounced.

If healthy at 27 — three years younger than Bennett — Allen can produce like an ideal in-line complement to Gronk as both a field-stretcher and a finisher. There was a cap to what both Scott Chandler and Bennett could do as No. 2 tight ends in New England. Allen’s game has proved to provide a much higher ceiling.

Who Is Vladislav Gavrikov, and Can He Make Ryan Murray Expendable in Columbus?

With the Columbus Blue Jackets season now over, hopeful eyes turn toward next season. Who can this team add to help improve on a franchise best season? Are there ways to shore up weak spots? Can the team use some of its plethora of prospects to add a veteran center or a goal scoring winger?

One of the players the team could potentially add is Vladislav Gavrikov. Gavrikov was chosen in the 6th round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft (159th overall by the Blue Jackets). Listed at 6’3 and 214 pounds and sporting a left handed shot, the Russian defenseman is every general managers dream, possessing the size and skills to be a shutdown defenseman in the NHL. According to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch, the Blue Jackets want to bring him to North America from the KHL.

Awuzie got to Boulder as a two-star recruit in 2013.

By last year, they were in the top 20 in scoring D and had gone from 4-8 to 10-4, largely on the back of one of the Pac-12’s best defenses.

That just pretty much became the culture, where everybody was holding each other accountable, Awuzie said. The coaches didn’t have to say much. Celtics vs. Bulls 2017, Game 6 live stream: Time, TV channel, and how to watch NBA playoffs online

Authentic Jack Ham Jersey
Authentic Chris Tierney Jersey The East’s top-ranked Boston Celtics rallied back to take a 3-2 series lead over the No. 8 Chicago Bulls, and the two teams face off in a potentially decisive Game 6 on Friday. The matchup tips off at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN and CSNE and is available for live stream on Watch ESPN.

The Bulls jumped out a 2-0 series lead, shocking the Celtics on their own home floor. Then Rajon Rondo went down with a fractured thumb and the series shifted. Boston has since won three straight games and has Chicago on the ropes in Game 6.

The Wizards rallied in the third quarter, reducing the Hawks’ once huge lead to just 13 points. But Atlanta fought back.

The Hawks went to Paul Millsap, who finished with 29 points on 12-of-20 shooting. Dennis Schroder’s speed and timely three-point shooting resulted in 27 points and nine assists, and rookie forward Taurean Prince had his best game of the series. He caught the Wizards off-guard for 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, making both of his threes and bringing a junkyard dog defensive mentality reminiscent of ex-Hawks forward DeMarre Carroll.

Phoenix gets a perennial All-Star to slot in around Eric Bledsoe, Booker, and their young front court. Chicago gets to press the reset button and begin a new era with an elite point guard prospect. Objectively, this feels like it works for both sides. If Kevin Love can get traded for Andrew Wiggins, why can’t Jimmy Butler get traded for Markelle Fultz? Please tell me why I’m wrong in the comments.
